5 Mother's Day Dessert Recipes
a few of my personal favorites–a mix of mine and other recipes from Food52 that I love
Instead of a new recipe today (mostly because I didn’t have time this week), I thought I’d share a few of my favorite recipes to make for Mother’s Day this coming Sunday. Most are my own, but a couple are from Food52 where I currently work. They’re listed in no particular order, but If I had to choose my favorite out of the 5, the rhubarb crumble tart is definitely up there.
Lemon & Raspberry Tart
Lemon and raspberry is a classic combo. And while this tart looks fancy, don’t be fooled–it’s made up of just three parts: a pâte sucrée (sweet pastry dough), lemon curd, and raspberries or raspberry jam. Both the crust and curd can be made ahead of time (if you want), so all you have to do on the day is assemble.
Cardamom Buns
This recipe for traditional Swedish cardamom buns is one of my most popular recipes on Food52 and perfect for impressing on Mother’s Day. You can shape them however you’d like, but if you want to try the traditional twist, check out my F52 YouTube episode of What’s For Fika? where I walk through it.
Maialino's Olive Oil Cake
If you’ve never made (or had) an olive oil cake, Maialino’s is the one to try. With over 600 reviews on Food52, it lives up to the hype–and I can attest as I’ve baked it many times. It’s also what I like to call a low-maintenance cake: no frosting or whipped topping needed, just a dusting of powdered sugar.
Rhubarb Crumble Tart with Crème Anglaise
Clearly I’m on a tart kick, but this rhubarb crumble tart is even quicker and easier than the former–the only challenge you might run into is finding rhubarb. I serve it with crème anglaise (or vaniljsås, as we call it in Sweden), which is essentially a drizzleable custard and comes together in about five minutes.
Kladdkaka with Whipped Cream
A Swedish staple at every fika and just about every holiday. Kladdkaka is a rich, gooey, chocolate torte of sorts and takes almost less than 20 minutes from start to finish. And the best part is you probably have all the ingredients in your pantry already. Serve it with freshly whipped unsweetened cream (and berries, if desired) to cut through some of the richness.
